The special awards at Regeneron ISEF 2024 were sponsored by numerous esteemed organizations, each recognizing projects that demonstrated exceptional scientific merit and potential impact.
What Are Special Awards?
Special awards at Regeneron ISEF are given by organizations that want to encourage and support young scientists in specific fields. These awards can include scholarships, cash prizes, memberships, and other valuable resources. Winning a special award is a testament to the innovation, creativity, and potential impact of a student’s project.
Air Force Research Laboratory on behalf of the United States Air Force
The Air Force Research Laboratory is a global technical enterprise, boasting some of the best and brightest leaders in the world. They are revolutionary, relevant, and responsive to the warfighter.
Their mission is leading the discovery, development, and integration of affordable warfighting technologies for air, space, and cyberspace forces. Each recipient received a glass trophy and a USAF medal for projects that showed revolutionary and relevant technological advancements.
Criteria: Projects must demonstrate revolutionary and relevant technological advancements.
Alfred University
Alfred University, located in Alfred, New York, offers majors in Engineering, Art & Design, Business, and the Liberal Arts & Sciences. Often ranked as one of the best colleges for Ceramics, Glass, and Material Sciences, Alfred University helps students realize their purpose through mentorship, inclusivity, and intersections. They awarded a full tuition scholarship to deserving students.
Criteria: Projects that showcase significant potential in engineering, art & design, business, and liberal arts & sciences.
American Chemical Society
The American Chemical Society Education Division promotes excellence in science education and science literacy through activities supporting teachers and learners of chemistry. Through its participation in Regeneron ISEF, ACS encourages and supports high school students in their exploration of the chemical sciences through research experiences. Recipients received a Diploma of Recognition and a $100 gift card.
Criteria: Projects that exemplify excellence in chemical sciences.
American Mathematical Society
The American Mathematical Society furthers the interests of mathematical research and scholarship, serving the national and international community through its publications, meetings, advocacy, and other programs. The AMS distributed awards in memory of the late mathematician Karl Menger.
Honorable Mention recipients received a One-Year Membership to AMS, and winning projects (up to three team members per project) were awarded One-Year Memberships to the American Mathematical Society.
Criteria: Outstanding mathematical research demonstrating profound insights and applications.
American Psychological Association
The American Psychological Association is the leading scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States. With more than 157,000 members, including researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants, and students, APA’s mission is to promote the advancement, communication, and application of psychological science and knowledge to benefit society and improve lives.
Criteria: Projects that advance psychological science and knowledge.
Arizona State University
Arizona State University offered a scholarship combining a monetary award and an environment focusing on knowledge, learning, and research. The New American University ISEF Scholarship is renewable for four years and was awarded to individuals and teams.
Criteria: Innovative projects in various scientific and engineering disciplines.
Association for Computing Machinery
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the premier membership organization for computing professionals. It advances computing as a science and a profession, enabling professional development and promoting policies and research that benefit society.
ACM hosts the computing industry’s leading Digital Library and serves its global members with journals, conferences, workshops, electronic forums, and a Learning Center.
Criteria: Projects advancing computing as a science and profession.
Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence
The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) promotes research in, and responsible use of, artificial intelligence. It strives to improve the teaching and training of AI practitioners and provides guidance on the importance and potential of AI developments. AAAI awarded Honorable Mentions and Student Memberships to finalists, along with memberships for the school libraries of all winners.
Criteria: Projects showcasing the potential and importance of AI developments.
China Association for Science and Technology (CAST)
CAST is the largest organization of scientists and technologists in China. Its mission is to promote public understanding of science. CAST supports youth and adolescents in becoming citizens with high scientific literacy by awarding projects that best reflect originality and innovation in all scientific disciplines.
Criteria: Exceptional scientific disciplines with high scientific literacy.
Drug, Chemical & Associated Technologies Association (DCAT)
DCAT is a global business development association for companies engaged in the Bio/Pharmaceutical manufacturing value chain. It operates as a not-for-profit, corporate member-supported, and volunteer-led organization.
Florida Institute of Technology
Florida Institute of Technology offers degrees in engineering, science, computing, aeronautics, business, psychology, and liberal arts. The university, located just south of the Kennedy Space Center, offers incredible research opportunities for students. Florida Tech awarded three presidential scholarships equal to full tuition each year for four years upon full-time enrollment at the university.
Criteria: Innovative projects in engineering and science.
Fondazione Bruno Kessler
The Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK) is a leading research center in Trento, Italy. FBK’s WebValley Summer School program offers interdisciplinary scientific research opportunities. Several Intel ISEF finalists were awarded full fellowships to join the WebValley team in June.
Criteria: Interdisciplinary scientific research projects.
IEEE Foundation
The IEEE Foundation supports technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE awarded the $10,000 Presidents’ Scholarship for an outstanding project in electrical/electronics engineering, computer science, or other IEEE fields of interest. Additional awards included a $600 Second Place Award, a $400 Third Place Award, and a $1,000 25th Anniversary award.
Criteria: Outstanding projects in electrical/electronics engineering, computer science, or related fields.
International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE)
INCOSE develops and disseminates interdisciplinary principles and practices for successful systems realization. The INCOSE Best Use of Systems Engineering awards were given to the best interdisciplinary projects producing technologically appropriate solutions meeting societal needs, with first, second, and third place awards.
