How to Find Your ISEF-Affiliated Regional Science Fair

The International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is the world’s largest pre-college science competition, bringing together thousands of high school students from more than 60 countries, regions, and territories to present their research. ISEF gives you a global audience for your work, plus opportunities for scholarships and networking with top researchers. To compete at ISEF, you first have to qualify through an affiliated regional science fair. These regional fairs are the qualifier: you’ll get feedback on your project, and if you do well, a spot at ISEF.

Step-by-Step Guide to Finding Your Affiliated Regional Science Fair

Step 1: Visit Sciencefair.io

Start at the Sciencefair.io website. Built by past science fair winners, it has a tool to find your affiliated fair.

Step 2: Access the “Find a Fair” Tool

On the homepage, look for the “Find a Fair” feature near the bottom of the page, or go to it directly.

Step 3: Enter Your Location

The tool needs some basic information to narrow the search. Click your state on the map, then click your county.

Step 4: Review the Search Results

The tool then shows the ISEF-affiliated regional fairs nearest you, plus the state fair (if you’re in a larger state). You’ll see each fair’s name and contact information, along with a breakdown of past project categories, the number of finalists from the region, and how competitive it is.

Step 5: Look Up the Fair

Once you’ve identified a fair, look it up for more detail, including entry requirements and deadlines. Make sure you know how to compete and plan enough time to prepare. I’d recommend starting about six months before the first fair, though that varies with the type of project.

Step 6: Register for the Fair

With all the information in hand, complete the registration. Meet every deadline and eligibility requirement, and register as soon as you can once you’ve decided to compete.
