Last Minute Tips to Ace the ACT or SAT

After spending the last few weeks and months preparing for the ACT or SAT it is important that you approach the Exam properly. It is important to review concepts, while not tiring yourself before your exam. This guide will give you the proper tips and tricks to ACE the ACT or SAT.

The Day Before the ACT/SAT

Most people suggest to avoid studying the day before the exam. However, it is important to review the concepts that you struggled with while you were studying.

We suggest to not spend more than 30 to 40 minutes reviewing content. Split your time into the different exam sections. Perhaps you struggle with Geometry, go through those questions you missed on practice exams, so that you remember your weaknesses. Also, make sure you have everything that you need: Pencils, Admission Ticket, Calculator, Batteries, Snacks.

It is important not to overdo your studying the night before. Engage in activities you find joy in. It might be wise to go on a walk to calm your nerves. Make sure that you have a healthy dinner. This affects your sleep, which is vital. Make sure you set an alarm so you will not have to rush in the morning. Aim for about 7 to 9 hours of sleep. This range makes sure that you are energized in the morning.

The Morning of the ACT/SAT

Make sure that you have plenty of time to get ready in the morning. Go through your normal morning schedule, so that you are ready for your big day! Plan your breakfast a day in advance, so that you can eat something light and healthy. Eating sugary breakfast can lead to feeling lazy during the latter half of the exam.

If you are able to, ask your parents or friends to drive you. It is important to stay clearheaded, so avoiding the stress of driving is one less thing that you will have to worry about.

Arrive plenty of time in advance, so you can navigate yourself to the testing location. After checking in, try to take a mental note of areas such as water fountains and restrooms, just in case you have any emergencies during the test.

During the Break

The 3 to 4 hour exam can be exhausting, but fortunately we have a 10 minute break in between. Although brief, it is important to utilize this break to the fullest. Pack a healthy and nutritious snack (consider apples or a granola bar). During this time (and during the exam) try to stay hydrated. Further take a trip to the restroom to freshen up before the next half of the exam.
